Care & monitoring

Keep existing equipment working and in view.

Where does your water come from?

Different sources, different starting points.

Treated, but not always pleasant.

Municipal water is treated by your utility. Homeowners usually come to us about hardness, chlorine taste and odor, or scale on fixtures.

What you just saw

The parts, in plain English.

Names and part references come from the manufacturer’s WS1 drawings. The animation is illustrative: the exact board, cover, options and tank media for your system are chosen per home.

These are OEM valve service and programming references, not complete system installation guides.

  1. Front cover + board

    Front cover and control board

The face you program. Board and cover options vary (the EE cover is one example); Wi-Fi monitoring needs a compatible Wi-Fi-enabled board.

  2. V3002 / gears

Drive bracket, motor and drive gears

A small motor turns a gear train mounted on a bracket behind the cover.

  3. V3004

    Drive cap assembly

A geared ring and threaded spindle that converts gear rotation into the piston stroke.

  4. V3011

    Downflow main piston

Travels front-to-back horizontally inside the valve, not down into the tank. A valve is set up as downflow or upflow, never both at once.

  5. V3174

    Regenerant piston

Attached to the main piston on softeners and other regenerating systems. Not used on backwash-only filters such as a carbon filter.

  6. V3005-02

    Spacer stack assembly

A one-piece cage with seals inside that the piston slides through. Serviced as a whole assembly, not as individual rings.

  7. Injector cap / screen

    Injector, screen and plug

Draws brine on a softener. A backwash-only filter uses plugs in both injector holes instead.

  8. V3001

    Downflow valve body

Threads onto the tank. Bypass and meter options depend on the model selected.

Test, then recommend, then install. In that order.

  1. 01

    Test, free

A free in-home water test to find out what is actually in your water and what is bothering you about it.

  2. 02

    Recommend

Equipment sized to your results, with the reasoning shown. Sometimes the answer is less equipment.

  3. 03

    Install

Clean installation with bypass and service access, programmed for your household.

  4. 04

    Stay connected

Optional branded monitoring on compatible valves, so problems surface early.

Branded Wi-Fi monitoring

A softener that tells you before you notice.

Compatible Clack WS1 Wi-Fi-enabled control boards connect over Wi-Fi or Ethernet to a monitoring app carrying the Rare Find name, not someone else’s. Add optional sensors for salt volume, leaks, pressure and TDS.

No provider or terms have been selected, and there is nothing to apply for. Meanwhile, here is what is worth asking about any home-improvement financing.

Financing information
  1. 01

    Total cost

Add up every payment plus any fees. Compare that figure with paying upfront, not just the monthly number.

  2. 02

    Term length

A longer term usually lowers each payment but can raise what you pay overall.

  3. 03

    APR

The annual percentage rate reflects interest and certain fees. Ask whether it is fixed or can change.

  4. 04

    Fees

Look for origination, late-payment and prepayment fees, and ask how each is charged.

No. The form on this preview site saves your consultation request with a reference number. It does not book an appointment or send an email or text.

A widely used control valve for residential softeners and filters. It sits on top of the media tank and controls regeneration using a drive, piston and seal stack inside a composite body.

No. A softener uses ion-exchange resin; a carbon filter uses activated carbon. They can share the same style of tank and valve, but they do different jobs.

Only with compatible WS1 Wi-Fi-enabled control boards. Older valves may need a board change. We will check before recommending anything.

No. Monitoring reports equipment and optional sensor data such as salt level, leaks, pressure or TDS. Drinking water safety requires proper testing. Our water treatment guide explains the difference.
